I bought this for my mother years ago, thinking it would be a good way to get her to talk about her life. It really worked, and I filled out the book for my sons. Now I have my first grand daughter, and I bought it again. I love almost everything about it, but I am noticing that women's work is ignored. The statement is My father worked at, but there is no mention of what work mother did/ does. In today's world, it is pretty unusual that only the dad works.
This was a gift for my mom for Mother's Day. Her mom filled out a similar book, and I wanted to give my mom the same opportunity.The quality of the book is nice. There is a lot included in the book that is interesting (wedding day, childhood, etc. that are fun to look back on for children and grandchildren). It was a great chance to record memories for herself and the rest of the family. I wish there was more space to write about these fun moments though. There are only a couple of lines for a lot of these milestones, which doesn't leave a lot of room to reflect.Despite that, I would recommend this book for mothers and grandmothers. It's probably more ideal for older moms who can write about their grown children. Either way, there is nothing cooler than having something for family to savor.
I wanted a good quality book to stand up for years to come. I received the Grandmother Remembers: A Written Heirloom in the 1980's for a Grandchild, and found it very well made and laid out very nicely. It is easy to write on good quality paper. It begins sentences and that was helpful to me. Blank pages would give more room but not provide interesting questions to prompt memories. I am buying four more today for grandchildren who are young adults now.
I purchased 2 of these for Christmas for my mom and mother-in-law to complete for my daughter. I have an older version that my grandmother did for me over the course of several years and now that she's gone, it's one of my most prized possessions. I look forward to my daughter getting to know her grandmothers through these pages.
The quality of the book made me proud to give it to a dear friend. The questions were perfect for the person who needs a prompt to get them started on answering questions without it feeling like a fill in the blank.I will buy this for other friends as the occasion presents itself.
My mom completed a book for my daughter and I completed one for my granddaughter. I bought this for a friend with her first grandchild and she loved it!
I looked at several of these books, and liked the questions and layout of this one best. I ordered this one for my grandmother, however, I ordered the "Grandparent's Legacy" for my parents (soon to be grandparents). The "Grandparent's Legacy" is a lot nicer and looks much higher quality. I really like the layout, and it is a lot more in depth than most. But, that one might be a little too lengthy or in depth for an older grandparent. "Grandmother Remembers" is shorter, simple, and to the point. With my 90 year old granny's failing eyesight and health, I felt it was a more appropriate book. For someone who is still capable of filling out the journal style layout of the "Granparent's Legacy" book, it is definately the way to go and comprable in cost. I feel you get much more for the money.
I have given this particular book as gifts many times. I first bought 2 of these books for my mom to "remember" her history for my niece and nephew. She did not get to finish her memoirs before she passed away but she did leave a wealth of notes and photos. The book is so nicely laid out that rereading her entries bring her back as if she were telling the stories. I just gave 2 more of these books to a friend who is thrilled to give them to her mother and mother inlaw. Just give the wonderful grandmas enough time to write, rewrite - their memories are family treasures.
